Well got only myself to blame for this, met up with Littleshit on the Sat at under the Hammer only problem had already managed to slurp a good number of beers beforehand so really pissed by turning out time. So as the Hogmany Run has been a short for last few years decided to save the bus fare and run to the farmyard to get rid of beer sweat and hopefully clear fuzzy head. Well a couple of miles later beat the path to the stable door only greeted by all the sign directing us to rear entrance! Is this Animal farm?
Well the festivities started in the farmyard with the Pre-run DownDown yep got that along with Flat Eric (East Grinstead vet or something) and ???? Peter from OMAN or somewhere else in the desert. Not only got the DD also presented with Horn and Scribe no helpful pen paper obvious a cost saving.
After a brief normal baying and an early morning wailing for the neighbours we set off following a trail that seemed to have the normal bird droppings for directions. This time of course we are very civilized and proceeding up towards Hazehead park? Well the 1st hill seemed to eperate the pack a little with Hillarys wee Sherpa leading a herd of wailing souls. For some strange reason I was somewhere near the front. Still honking horn we reached the 1st check.
After a short break the familiar call was faintly heard and we all set off. Yes Hazelhead maybe that were Harley went. Littleshit managed to navigate on a well dung trodden path and we now turned down eventually crossing by Pitfolds through the abandoned meadow towards the old railway line. The obligatory fence crossing caught Canna-be-arsed and he was down prostrate like the old pope. An interesting check on the now very familar path and we were off via Garthdee. After a short spurt there was a warm Whisky- crabbie refuel stop outside Norward hall. Well we off again this time a little re-grouped and heading to the river. The trial lead over the ravine and down a steep bank. Goat wrestler I think commented “it’s a shame it’s not wetter or we would have real fun here”. Looking at the pathetic way a few of the hash aristocracy carefully trying to avoid getting hoofs dirty. I thought I would attempt to start the skispedition early. Yep with cries of “traversing” set of in my best ski motion down strange did not catch farmer but of course ended up with both legs separated by a tree witnessed by the count.
The inevitable whotsoff check served to confuse eventually being broken. JC heading in the west direction, pack to east. I decided to head in JC direction as I should know this area only to hear the now familiar call. Undeterered decided to visit the removed bridge anyway might be s shortcut! No just a long cut so followed round to join the back back at the riverbank. Back on trail again past the salmon counter and off to what we thought to Garthdee. (soon be back for nosh) No back down to the river again and down to the Deeside bridge. Crossed and could see the pack strung out along the riverside park. Maybe we have lost sense of direction now and we are heading east into Duthie park. Whotsoff is now helpfully pointing out the false trials and checks he had set. So it must be the bandstand our traditional stop. No it was past this and eventually the beer stop was reached at the “railroad parking lot” bit of newfie creeping in. So after a much need intake of amber fluid we slowly limped back to the farmyard for the festivities.
As normal the shepherds’ warning was predictable and the weather was turning a decided grey colour so now the festivities began. Of course Littleshit was stand in RA, real smart move having a beer with him the night before.
Well guess who got a down down for being drunk, being a returnee, ploughing a field with BMW and also for tree hugging I might have had others to but by now memory fades a bit. Managed to snitch up Canna-be-arsed for a being pope. Flat Eric for being a southerner, Drilbit had changed into a peter sellers pervert oufit so he got one. Hash shit fortunately was not awarded. It seemed that all down downs were also poured over me. Peter from Oman avoided the shoe and a down down why? Did penguin get one? Seemed a lot of committee bashing muttering on over the Gordon brown Harleycash grab, but no down downs dished out on that one. By now the weather god had turned against us and beer was mixing with rain. The only ones that did not get a D D was the hares. A hasty semi circle was reconvened and they were duly toasted for an excellent end of year effort. A great scramble now ensured to get hoof covers off with frozen fingers and get a pleasant stall in the farmhouse. Of course the count had already sent his manservant to reserve a place!
The farmers wife had laid on a splendid spread of soups, cheese and mince pies which was consumed with relish and gusto. You would have thought we had not eaten for days not just hours must have been the cold, beer or just the food taste. Good effort Na knickers.
So a good start to the nights festivities for all. It’s happy New Year to all my readers and have really good run throughout 2007. Guess my next hash will be the Skispedition or Speyside challenge. Must get on with my shovelling it’s the Newfie national sport.
